Upon their arrival to the Great Salt Lake Valley in 1850, John McDonald settled in Alpine/Highland area. But one harsh Winter convinced them to move to Springville where many of their friends & relatives had settled. Springville is where their first two children were born. Learning of promising grazing land in the Provo River Valley of the Wasatch Mountains, John and his brothers left their families in Springville and ventured into the mountains.
